Kona Orchid Society meets

Kona Orchid Society meets at 6 p.m. Friday at Makua Lani Christian Academy on Kealakaa Street. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and a potluck begins at 6:15. An incorrect dinner time was in the Sunday edition.

Walking meditation offered

Gavin Harrison will offer a walking meditation class with time for dialogue from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Waimea Events Salon, 66-1664 Waiaka St., Waimea. The event is open to all. Meditation guidance will be offered. Attendees should bring their own meditation cushion. Chairs are provided.

Senior ID cards issued

The Coordinated Services for the Elderly Program of the Elderly Activities Division will issue Senior ID Cards for those 60 years old and older Monday through Friday at the Aging and Disability Resource Center.

Staff will also issue cards from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8 at L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center in Waimea, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 at Kona Walmart, from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, March 14 at Naalehu Community Center, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 22 at Yano Hall, from 1 to 3 p.m. March 28 at Hale Hauoli Senior Center in Honokaa and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 30 at West Hawaii Civic Center in Building B.

Teen Tech Week planned at library

Teen Tech Week is March 8-19 at Kailua-Kona Public Library.

Teens in grades 6-12 may pick up an entry blank in the Young Adult Section of the library and complete any combination of the activities to score points. Those who earn 1,000 points can return their entry blank to the library by March 19 to be entered into a drawing for $25 Amazon and iTunes gift cards.

One way to earn points is to attend a solar s’mores program at 10:30 a.m. March 19. Attendees will build a solar oven to make a s’more snack. A $20 iTunes gift card will be given away. The program is limited to 15 participants. See the solar s’mores flyer in the young adult section of the library for details.

American Legion meeting March 9

The American Legion Post 20 and American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 4 p.m. March 9 at the Elks Club in the Old Industrial Area.

The gathering begins at 3:30 with fellowship and cocktails and the meeting commences at 4. After the meeting, the Elks will hold a steak sandwich dinner for $12. Those who would like to stay for dinner must call Dave Carlson at 325-6491 for reservations.

On March 12, American Legion Kona Post 20 will hold its Adopt-A-Highway event at 6 a.m. at the entrance to Pualani Estates, at Puapuaanui Street.
